What is Kava Root Extract?
Kavalactone Extract is made from the root or stem of Kava pepper Pipermethysticum G. Forst, and kavalactone is the main active ingredient. Kava pepper is a perennial shrub of the family Pepperaceae. In some areas of Africa, the root of Kava pepper and the wine made are collectively called "Kava" (Kava, Kawax). Nervous system action
(1) Anti-anxiety effect:
Kavalactones can improve the attention, memory, and responsiveness of patients with anxiety disorders, and put patients in a relaxed state, but their effects are slow. Jena University in Germany conducted a controlled experiment on 101 outpatients suffering from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive neurosis. The patients were given 100mg/day of Kava Root Powder and a placebo respectively. After 8 weeks, the patients in the kava group had a significant effect.
(2) Sedative and hypnotic effects:
Intravenous or oral administration of dihydrocapsaicin or dihydro anesthetic capsaicin has sedative and hypnotic effects on mice, rats, rabbits and cats, and high doses can cause ataxia and loss of normal reflexes. It is currently believed that kavapyrone may act through the GABA receptor binding site.
(3) Local anesthetic effect: Kava extract can cause muscle paralysis, has a local anesthetic effect on experimental frogs, and paralyzes the wings of bats and sparrows. The mechanism of action is similar to that of lidocaine, acting by blocking potential-dependent sodium channels.
2. Antifungal effect Kava piperone has no inhibitory effect on the growth of Gram-positive or negative bacteria, and some kavapyrones have significant inhibitory effects on many fungi, including some human pathogenic bacteria.
3. Muscle relaxant effect All kinds of kava piperone have muscle relaxant effect on all kinds of experimental animals, and it is more effective than Mephenesin in protecting mice against the convulsive and lethal effects of strychnine.
4. Other effects Kava extract also has diuretic and antithrombotic effects.
